Klara Knutsson
Through my art, I celebrate the tradition of marquetry while exploring new pathways for
the technique in the modern art world. I’m interested in how marquetry can evolve through
contemporary expression, and I explore this by blending traditional techniques with my
own visual language. In my work I combine different types of wood to create a variety of
tones, textures, and patterns, using the various shades and structures of the wood to bring
depth and life to my works. The cross section of nature and urban life is a frequently recurring
theme in my work. I am drawn to motifs where elements of nature mesh with the urban
landscape; this is something I have continued to explore during my time on WARP Wood.
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, I hold a bachelor's degree in cabinetmaking from
Malmstens, Linköping University, and have also studied craft and design at Grebbestad
Folkhögskola and Grimslöv Folkhögskola. My practice includes both personal projects
and exhibitions, as well as commissioned marquetry work. I also offer workshops and
classes where I teach the craft of marquetry.
