About the artist, Weizitong Kong:
Born and raised in China, Weizitong Kong is a furniture and tableware maker based in the Hudson Valley, New York. His tableware practice includes a special focus on traditional Asian lacquerware.
Weizitong showed a strong interest in painting and crafts from a young age. In 2014, he moved to New York City to study fine arts, beginning his creative journey as a visual artist. Over time, he became increasingly drawn to materials, tools, and the physical process of making, which gradually led him toward craft. This shift allowed him to bring together his fine art sensibility and traditional techniques, forming the foundation of his current practice.
Now working in the Hudson Valley, he draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and explores the connection between people, nature, and the everyday objects that shape our lives. Whether a piece of furniture or a small vessel, each object he creates reflects his careful attention to form, function, and material, as well as the simple joy he finds in making itself.
