Artist Statement
The Misterie embodies the beauty of collaboration, mentorship, and the evolution of talent. When Merryll Saylan relocated to Alex Bradley's hometown in 2018, Phil Brown insisted on the two connecting. As Alex began turning and their friendship developed, Merryll's mentorship became a cornerstone in Alex's artistic journey.
While Alex turned the pieces that her father roughed out, she delved into carving with Merryll's guidance. The smaller vessel was initially conceived as a trial piece. However, upon completing the texturing on both vessels, it became evident they formed a cohesive set symbolizing the profound friendship and mentorship between the two artists.
Phil would have deeply appreciated Merryll for imparting her craft to his daughter and the friendship which ensued.
